STENCILING & SPRAY PAINTING
For this lesson we are creating a collage as a starter to making stencils.
ACTIVITY 1
Firstly, we must draw abstract shapes inspired from external buildings (within a frame of a window).
ACTIVITY 2
Secondly, USE a combination of materials to construct 3 collages over the top of your initial drawings.
Think about adding....
- Coloured paper cuttings
- Scanning images on acetate (eg. photocopies)
- Newspaper
- Adding mixed paper

ACTIVITY 3
Selected a portion of our work to then transfer into a stencil and cut it out with a scalpel.
SAFETY
*** REMEMBER safety with scalpels....
DO NOT cut towards your body or finger
Use rulers for straight lines
Work in pairs if you are cutting through tough materials
Take breaks to let your hands rest.
Below are some examples of my 3 collages
How were the below 2 artworks created?
Think about the effect of the spray paint...
Other student work examples
These things worked well:
Graphic bold style
Strong contrasts
Some negative space in collages
Pure, vibrant colours
Less detail in initial drawings
Overlaying multiple stencils
