See below a video of how to
complete an intaglio print or
commonly known as
'Etching' in printmaking.
ACTIVITY 3
Inking up of acetate:
A workstation is provided with newspaper, black ink and rollers.
RUBBER GLOVES ON.
*** REMEMBER to ink the acetate on the textured side
(so feel with your fingers that the
surface is rough before you ink).
Then remove all the ink from the surface so only ink remains in the etched sections. (cloth best to do this)
See example below
ACTIVITY 3
To print your work,
the acetate needs to go through a press...
For this, make sure the layers are right.
layers include:
Plastic at bottom,
etching facing upwards,
slightly wet paper on top,
cover material eg. blue rags
and
finally
the materials on the press

ACTIVITY 4
Combine, reprint, splice or
something different!
Here is what to do next if you have time for a second print.
Consider:
Asking other students to combine your artworks
eg. print one over the other
Add depth to your work with another material.
eg water and bleeding technique (see image below)
Or maybe even
Cut up your acetate and reprint it scrambled.
(see top right example in photo gallery above)
As a QUEUE is likely to form at the printing press... Reworking or altering a print would be a good way to ensure you keep exploring.
